Be a Firefighter - Surrey (1 person)

On our full day of firefighting fun you will be kitted out in a real life firefighter uniform, have a go at driving a fire engine, tackle blazes and negotiate smoke filled tunnels in preparation for the big finale. All that firefighting is hungry work - so a buffet lunch/BBQ is included too!

Times: March to October 9.45am - 5.00pm.   November - February 8.45am - 4.00pm

Dates: Throughout the year, 1st and 3rd Saturday in the month. From May to September only, the experience runs every Saturday. Dates for exclusive groups between 8 - 12 by arrangement.

Itinerary: The day starts with a health and safety briefing, followed by the issue of the firefighter uniform that you will wear for the day and fire equipment familiarisation.

Then it's time for flashing lights and sounding of the horns as you take it in turn to drive the emergency fire appliances. The group then moves on to discovering what it is like using firefighter breathing equipment. If you feel comfortable with the equipment on, you can try and negotiate your way around a network of smoke filled passages. It's then time to learn all about controlling fire using hoses, pumps and fire appliances.

During the lunch break (either buffet or BBQ) your firefighter instructors will demonstrate backdrafts and flashovers. After lunch you'll experience a real fire scenario with typical situations, including helicopter fuselage fuel fires, car and pallet fires, which will be tackled using hoses.

The grand finale to the day draws together all the skills you have learnt throughout the experience in a live, major fire incident. From the moment your team receives the alarm at base, it's a scramble to the fire appliances and all hands on deck as all the teams attend the fire.

Once the flames are extinguished it's time for a de-brief and presentation of framed photos and certificates to all participants.

Participants: Maximum of 12 people per session.

Facilities: Buffet or BBQ included in price for participant, showers, locker rooms and toilets on site.

Restrictions: There are no height restrictions. Participants must be over 18 and able to cope with physical activities such as crawling.

Spectators: Welcome. The firefighting takes place in a cordoned off area, but beyond that is a specific area offering good views of all the action.

Supplier: The supplier of this activity is a private fire service and is not affiliated to the local authority fire service.
